MY STORY
The Early Years
My art talent flourished early on, especially during my elementary school years as a young scholarship student  at John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana. My excellent art teachers at Shortridge High School, in the same city, gave me more encouragement. As a result I received regional Scholastic Art Awards for drawings and ceramics.

As a young woman, however, I did not personally know any working artists, perhaps limiting my vision of my future vocation. So for a long time, the competing interests in social justice, social service, and education were my source of employment, mainly as a community organization executive. However I always explored various art media in my free time, finally to discover  transparent watercolor painting as my favorite medium. I was especially influenced by seeing Winslow Homer's marine paintings.

Although I began my creative life when small, working with pencil, crayon, pen, and cut paper, I neede the inspiration of the visual artists, jewelry designers, quilt-designers, seamstresses, singers, and musicians later discovered in my family true to pursue my art. Now i live and work in Sunnyvale, California, with my software -developer husband
Robert C. Field.

TURNING POINT
A real surprise came to this lifelong landlubber at age 21, the first time I saw the Pacific Ocean and felt I had "come home." Now I paint local life, especially marine scenes and landscapes. Be sure to see my statement page for more insight into a driving passion for painting local commercial fishing boats.

RECOGNITION
My paintings were featured recently in articles in the
Sunnyvale Sun, the Mountain View Voice, and the Los Altos Town Crier. A first solo exhibit was held in Petaluma, CA, in 2004. My "High Noon, Low Tide in Charleston" appeared in the 2006 Annual Maritime Art Exhibit at Coos Art Museum, Coos Bay, Oregon. "Blue Berry: a one-in-a-million Lobster" won second place at the 2007 Fish Follies Art Show at the Historical Museum of Cordova, Alaska. "Dappled Cottage" was juried into the 2006 Annual Exhibit at the Jasper Arts, Jasper, Indiana.
